Short Term Rentals

The city is proposing to regulate Short Term Rentals. A short term rental is generally defined as a rental occurring in a residential unit (i.e. not a hotel/motel, etc) that lasts from one night to 184 nights. Examples of this would rental of a summer cottage for a week or two or using an on-line platform to rent your home for weekends or longer. It does not include a traditional “roommate” type of situation.

A proposal has been created and has been discussed by a City Council subcommittee, which has referred the matter to the Planning Department and Planning Board for review and consideration. The Planning Board, after review and discussion, has approved proposed language for the ordinance and referred the matter back to the full City Council for possible adoption.
